About Our Ancillaries

Fairchild Books believes strong ancillary materials are key to the success of any textbook. They provide helpful pedagogical resources and enable instructors to make full use of the textbook.

What Fairchild labels "Instructor's Guides" (IGs) are also known as Teacher's Guides, Instructor's Manuals, and Answer Manuals. Their generally accepted mission is to provide supplemental material to facilitate the presentation of the source text. A basic IG might include sample course outlines, chapter-by-chapter objectives, discussion question-related content, additional projects and/or assignments, and a test bank. At Fairchild, we strive to include all of these elements and more. Fairchild recognizes the importance of "the little things," like separating out test material and providing comprehensive student handouts. Our goal is to make our Instructor's Guides simple, effective tools for bringing the text to the classroom, and we aim to design our ancillaries in such a way as to add value to the text for the broadest possible group of instructors across the widest disciplinary spectrum.

PowerPointŪ presentations (PPts) are an important visual tool to help instructors organize their lessons around a central text source. They provide illustrations or key images from the text and present content in concise, bulleted lists. PowerPoint use varies among instructors. Some display PPt slides chronologically, as a straightforward presentation; others use them to create handouts, or otherwise repurpose key content. To best satisfy all potential uses, Fairchild PowerPoints generally follow the organization of the text point for point, reproducing all key art and new images when it is appropriate to do so.

To achieve the goals of our ancillary product line, authors work directly with the Ancillary Editor as well as the Editorial and Art departments to create ancillary materials—whether Instructor's Guides, PowerPoints or other products—that meet the needs of the instructor and the students and are appropriate for their book.
